Cable Lockouts
Cable lockout devices thread a steel cable through several handles, valves or breakers and lock them together with one padlock, where a rigid device will not fit. This collection covers adjustable cable lockouts with a nylon or ABS body, thin cables for small handles, longer cables for grouped valves, a wire lock system with a cleat, and single-use security cables. Most used: the Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 1 as the standard cable lockout, the Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 5 for tight handles and the Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 6 for longer runs. For a single valve, a purpose-made lockout from our valve lockout devices is more secure; for several padlocks on one cable, add a lockout hasp.

When nothing purpose-made fits: a row of valves, a very large handwheel, a lever behind a guard, several breakers in one panel, or an awkward isolator. The cable loops through or around the parts, the body pulls it tight and locks it with up to four padlocks. The Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 1 with its 2.4 m cable covers most jobs; the Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 5 adds a thinner cable for small holes.

A nylon or PVC sheath, as on the Adjustable Steel Cable Lockout, Style 6, protects painted handles and keeps the cable from conducting to what it touches, so it is the choice around electrical panels. A bare stainless cable resists heat and chemicals better and suits outdoor valves and process plant.
